James Hancock: Author

James Hancock is a writer/screenwriter who specialises in bizarre comedy, thriller, horror, sci-fi and twisted fairy tales. He takes readers down strange and seldom trodden paths, often dark, and always with a twist or two along the way. A few of his short screenplays have been made into films, his stories read on podcasts, and he has been published in several print magazines, online, and in anthology books. He lives in England with his wife, two daughters, and a bunch of pets he insisted his girls could NOT have.

Screenplays

A few shorts from yesteryear. There are always more in the pipeline, and scripts looking for a good home. I’ve added a few short screenplays but I mostly write feature length.

The producer/director asked me who I visualised playing the lad. I replied with ‘a cheeky, Milkybar Kid kind of character… someone like Jake Pratt’. He then went out and got Jake Pratt.
The first screenplay I had made into a film (2003). With a budget of £50 and a mini DV camera, the amateur team from Scotland did a great job.
In 2006, The London Film Academy selected 3 micro short screenplays from the many which were submitted, and assigned 2 crews to each. Each crew, with different actors, shot a budget film. 3 screenplays, 6 crews, 6 films. I was fortunate enough to have my script filmed by the filmmakers of tomorrow (who are no doubt, filmmakers of today). Here are both versions.

Many years ago, 3 friends and myself decided to grab a mini DV camera and make a short film. We entered it into a micro film competition (it had to be a maximum of 90 seconds long), and although we didn’t win, we had fun making it. Unfortunately the copy I have is very grainy/pixelated, but it still a good example of what can be created in one day and with zero budget.
