James Hancock is a UK based Screenwriter and author. He specialises in thriller and horror, building the plot, suspense and atmosphere around a strong story and believable characters. His stories play on the mind and often end with a thought-provoking twist.
James has written and shot three experimental short films, learning a great deal about what can be achieved on a small budget. This has helped considerably when writing scripts with fewer locations and a small cast.
James’ short script, Roadside, was shot by a film crew in Scotland. Top Trumps, was shot by The London Film Academy with two different cast/crew, including actor Christopher Harper (Coronation Street), and actor Stuart Bowman (Versailles, Bodyguard). Parental Control, was shot by Summit From Nuthin Productions, and starred Jake Pratt (Nativity). Sorry, was shot by Friendly Bear Films, and starred Lyna Dubarry (Liaison). His thriller feature film script, Second Chance, is in pre-production with Theatrickal. His horror/thriller feature film script, Lucid, is optioned with RR3 Films. His short scripts, Hobgoblins and Cleaner Required, are also optioned. His screenplays have been read for consideration by such greats as Alan Rickman, John Hurt, Charles Dance, Tom Hardy, Sharon Stone, Iwan Rheon, and Jack O’Connell.
The pilot episode script for his TV series, Darkwick Down, won First Place Runner Up in TV Writer’s People’s Pilot Competition. His feature script, Trapped, won Bronze in Horror in the Hollywood Screenplay Contest, and Runner Up in Breaking Walls Ultimate Thriller Screenplay Contest. James has also written a thriller novella, more than forty short stories, been involved in writing/editing several anthology books, and is currently working on a TV series and his seventh feature film script.
